Rogue Element Inc. is pleased to announce the winner of the 2010 Green Design Grant is Barkwheats.
Barkwheats makes dog biscuits that are gluten- and grain‐free biscuits made from organic ingredients sourced directly from small‐scale farmers. Based in Maine, they work with farmers throughout the state to grow buckwheat, parsley, pumpkin, canola oil, sage, blueberries, lavender and chamomile. They work with local apiaries to source raw honey and local harvesters to supply sea vegetable (kelp) from off the coast of Maine. Additionally, they purchase fairly traded ginger from an organic farming cooperative in Belize, which makes makes Barkwheats the first pet product to carry the Fair Trade Certified mark. Their biscuits are just one step from the fields in which the ingredients are grown.
In addition to their responsible ingredient sourcing, the Barkwheats packaging is a 100% recycled box and a biodegradable bag made of wood pulp, both of which can be thrown in a home compost or woodstove when finished. Learn more about their exciting products at their website at www.barkwheats.com.
We are thrilled to be working with Barkwheats in 2010!
